Above the Surface

This is one of several digital paintings I am making based on scenes from a novel I was once planning to write. The name of the novel was Shirol, which told the story of a couple who were chosen to fight against an evil curse and free their realm.



Above the underwater region of Tifenum
Are the wetlands of Kors no Abza:
The wetlands of a thousand islands,
Covered with grasses and karijam trees,
Where the simahsu weave their webs within,
And lurk in the shallow waters for their prey,
The Sassega.

The simahsu are amphibian fish-like creatures that have thin, tentacle-like legs and spin webs somewhat like spiders. They remain underwater for most of the time, unless they are building or maintaining their webs, which attract the sassega--a small flying insect specific to the area.
